What the f*ck is Black Box?
Black Box is a fluid collection of musicians and artists, we are a dynamic art collective. Expanding and contracting, traveling from country to country, we are modern-day gypsies, minstrels and art nomads traveling from land to land, interacting with the local people and their cultures and absorbing their inspiration. Throughout our journeys, we chronicle this beautiful fusion of life in our Black Box. The manifestation of which are exhibitions like this, making events with music and our art. This is our way to make a difference, wherever we go. We know that art has the power to touch people.

NATURAL MADNESS ART EXHIBITION, BALI INDONÉSIA
There is a natural madness that growths within us! You don’t have to be a scientist to see how unbalanced humans and nature are... How completely out of kilter everything has become. A place where there are pets with better living conditions than humans, while masses of marginalized people are being swept under the carpet of urban blight. A place where we eat sea-life that’s been dining out on the micro-plastic discards of our own dishes, where we have birds addicted to potato chips. These are just a few of life’s daily observations that shine a light on the complete lack of connection between us, all of us!
Criticism, humour, and creativity are the chosen tools we have employed to create this exhibition to help expose this new age craziness. Our hope and desire are that these works will open your eyes and mind to this natural madness. That you will begin to ask yourself questions. What is my responsibility in this pattern? Am I changing it or just reinforcing it?
At the end of the day, the future is in your hands? Maybe you can do something about it… tomorrow… hmmm?
What to say about the Nevermind bar in Barcelona, except that it is like home. Skate, music, graffiti and the true underground spirit.
And it has a dirty old bowl in the back where our host Tharnie had a quick sesh after work.
Yes, we forgot to think about how we were going from Switzerland to Amsterdam... Until it was time to leave.. So in the end we had to take the bus, which took 19hours.
BUT we ended up going to Paris (or Parrí as the french say), as the bus did a scale there.
We arrived in the city of lights at 7am, after a shit night and were greeted by...... a Crime Scene!
Apparently someone got stabbed in the park behind the bus station the night before, but he was ok.
Not exactly what we had planned, but then again what did we have planned? Maigódi
Our second event in Barcelona Skate City was at a bar located in the Palau del Mar (Palace of the Sea), even we were amazed haha
This time with DJ Bemfis himself sharing the booth with Shaka, while Danka, Ariel and the local artist Bocha painted a few custom t-shirts out front. Our hosts Bovy, Julia, Tharniê and Lucía also joined the party, that turned out to be an epic night!!
Still in Brazil we were scouting a connection in Barcelona, by chance or fate DJ Bemfis sent a message to Shaka's fanpage and he just so happened to be a local DJ there!
So helped us to organize a couple of events in town and the first one was at a place called Santissimo Agave.
The great brazilian DJ & Producer, Maga Bo, was also in town and joined in with the Flipa and Black Box crew!
When in Porto in the beginning of their trip, Danka and Ariel met Ana and Andre who owned an awesome Art Gallery in Porto that also sells vinyl records and a lot of other cool stuff.
Even though their gallery is focused on local Portuguese artists, they invited Danka and Ariel to paint their backyard, and we ended up doing a afternoon event with music and some food on the grill like a big family.
HOSTEL DES ARTS
While still in Brazil, we had a chat to our good friend Alvaro and he told us that his sister was opening a hostel called Hostel Des Arts, in the small town of Amarantes, and that she would be happy to have us participate in the inauguration party.
So off we went with Pedro's old volvo, a 4h drive up the coast.
When we got there we were shocked by how awesome this hostel was, transformed from a old family hotel, in front of the river, fcken bliss.
We ended up staying there and making our part while Shaka and the other djs did their thing.
Thanks Hostel des Arts!
As soon as the Black Box arrived in Cascais, we stayed at a Hostel called Nice Ways.
The vibe there was so good that we ended up doing a quick afternoon event there during their barbeque evening.
Music, art & a few beers later and everyone headed out to town together for a party night!
One day we were walking around the street in Cascais near our friend Pedro's house and decided to ask around a few bars and pubs if we could do a Black Box event. We ended up going to a pub where the owner took us to Stairway Club.
We ended up deciding to make an event there and two days later, on a sunday, after printing and handing out some paper flyers on the streets, there we were!
We ended up inviting a group of break dancers that were practicing in a park and they came and put on a show of their own.
BLACKBOX & FLIPA
We interrupt this program to bring you a special announcement!
In August the Black Box is headed towards Spain, and our first stop will be none other than the great skate city of Barcelona. The place to be is Santisimo Agave where we planned an event full of art & music together with Flipa and Maga Bo.
Get yourself together and drive your funky soul!
BAR DAS FLORES
Black Box's arrival in Portugal couldn't be better. In the first week in Lisbon we met a local named Miguel that introduced us to the city and to Bar das Flores, where we held our first event.
And even better, on the day before we ran into our friend Paulo Govêa on the street and invited him to join in. So with him, Danka and Ariel doing live painting outside and Shaka DJing inside the party was set!
